Power of The Written Word
“ The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go,” Dr. Seuss
Are you a reader? The great thing about reading and books is there is something for everyone. Whether you want to get lost in a romance book, explore the world of science fiction or improve yourself through self-help/ lifestyle books the choice is yours.
When I was younger I did a lot more reading. Likely because I had more time on my hands. I would curl up on the couch or my bed and read the teeny romance books and get lost in the characters. As I am older even though my love for physical books still exist I find I gravitate more to audio books. One because it allows me to listen while doing other things like driving, cleaning the house or cooking. These days it is hard to find time to just sit and read for hours. Secondly, as you get older your eyes aren’t as good so audio books just make sense.
So why do so many people love books? Well…there something deeply emotional and sensory about books especially old books. Old books carry history and a connection to the past. Their smells, fragile yellow pages, and unique scent. Also the experience of going into a book store especially ones that carry old books bring out a sense of being a pirate looking for treasure. You never know what you will find.
For this blog I am going to recommend some audio books I listened to that help me through different stages of my life and ones I feel everyone would benefit in reading. Many may be ones you have already explored.
“ Libraries store the energy that fuels imagination. they open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life “ Sidney Sheldon
Girl, Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis
The book is about self empowerment, self-reliance and self-improvement. Recognize the lies you tell yourself. Take responsibility for your own happiness and set boundaries. Rachael takes a very down to earth approach to her writing style. Reminds me of when I am just chatting with some girlfriends that are giving me advice. The book targeted audience is women.
What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast by Laura Vanderkam
The book is about wasted mornings and how successful people use mornings to get ahead. How morning is when ‘will-power’ is the highest. Mornings if planned wisely can help transform your life and give you time to do the things you want to accomplish. It is about a mindset shift. The audio book is about an hour long so an easy, quick read with a lot of great advice.
The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins
‘Let Them’ and ‘Let Me’ theory. Accept you cannot control what other people think, feel, say or do. Instead focus on your own choices, responses and actions and what you can control. This book offers a mindset shift. Focus on what you can control. Mel gives a lot of examples from her personal life and a real down to earth, true telling approach.
Above is just three recommendations. There truly is a book for everyone. You can sign out books from a library, buy them in a store or download them right onto your phone. Whether you are looking for an escape or answers to self improvement or just want to simply learn more about our history you just need to lean on the power of the written word.
